Bintan, SEAJori – Chief of the Riau Islands Regional Police (Polda Kepri), Inspector General Asep Safrudin, ordered his entire force to strengthen early detection and risk mitigation to prevent potential security disturbances across the province during the opening of the 2026 Riau Islands Police Operational Meeting at the Holiday Inn Resort Bintan Lagoi on Thursday (10/9/2026) yesterday.
Safrudin emphasized that as a border area, international trade route, and major hub for industry and tourism, the Riau Islands require guaranteed security stability and legal certainty to sustain economic growth.
“Secure Kepri for secure investment. The Kepri must remain safe, and this security must instill confidence in the public, business community, and investors that they can operate safely, orderly, and under the protection of the law,” Safrudin told.
He also urged key officials and resort police chiefs across the province not to wait for potential disputes to escalate into open conflict. In cases involving friction, such as between local communities and industrial companies or fishermen groups, he instructed to prioritize persuasive communication and mediation.
However, he reiterated that measured and professional law enforcement will strictly apply whenever criminal elements are identified.
Beyond conflict mitigation, Safrudin highlighted the importance of monitoring public reports and maintaining transparency through the publication of major case resolutions.
Separately, Head of Public Relations for the Riau Islands Police, Senior Commander Nona Pricillia Ohei, called on the public to actively help maintain public order.
“We also reminded all citizens in Kepri that they can access police assistance or file complaints anytime via the 24 hour toll free 110 Hotline,” she adressed. (*)
